Photographing Disability

We don’t overcome disability.

We overcome the stigmas surrounding what disability is,

in a world that wasn’t built with disability in mind.

Selcouth Society is a community-based portrait project centered around disabled bodies. As a congenital below-knee amputee, I have spent my entire life navigating the world through my own unique experiences, but upon meeting other creatives with bodies like mine, I learned how truly expansive the spectrum of disability is, and through collaborations with fellow artists, I have discovered the power of self-advocacy and the importance of creating comfortable and inclusive spaces for all.

Selcouth Society won the Getty Images Joyful Bodies award in 2024, and photos from the series were published for the cover story of Amplitude Magazine May/June issue.
